The department’s mission is to protect life and property through planning, coordination and synchronization of state and federal resources, to provide a ready military, emergency management, and homeland security capability for our state and nation.

Gov. Sam Brownback signs a state proclamation Sept. 26 designating October as "Zombie Preparedness Month" in Kansas.  "If you are prepared for zombies, you are prepared for anything," is the theme for the emergency preparedness campaign sponsored by the Kansas Division of Emergency Management.

Members of the 1-108th Avn. Reg. provided helicopter entrance and extraction support to Ellsworth Correctional Facility personnel during a prison riot excercise, hosted by the Department of Corrections Sept. 24.

Approximately 400 school administrators, teachers, resource officers and other education professionals from across the state participated in the 2014 Safe, Healthy and Prepared Schools conference in Manhattan Sept. 22-23.   

Search and rescue teams from across the state practiced their skills and learned new ones during the annual Technical Rescue Conference held at the Crisis City training center near Salina Sept. 17-19.
