Change Of Command Ceremony Set For March 5 At 1st Battalion, 235th Regiment In Salina

Lieutenant Colonel Jason M. Inskeep will relinquish command of the 1st Battalion, 235th Regiment (Officer Candidate School/Warrant Officers Candidate School) to Major. Nichole E. Inskeep in a change of command ceremony Sunday, March 5. The ceremony will begin at 1 p.m.in Building 365, Kansas Regional Training Institute, 2929 Scanlan Ave., Salina.

“I am so excited to be going back to the OCS Battalion. It feels like coming home as it is where I started my career with the Kansas Army National Guard,” said Maj. Inskeep. “It is an incredible opportunity, both to train the future leaders of the Kansas Army National Guard, but also to have the unique experience of having the guidon passed to me by my husband. I am honored for have been selected, and excited to carry forward his initiatives.”

“It has been an honor to command this battalion for the past two years and oversee the leadership training of our future officers and warrant officers,” said Lt. Col. Inskeep. “While I look forward to new opportunities ahead, I will miss the training and the team that I leave behind. I also recognize the uniqueness of handing off my command to my wife and know that she will only improve the training and leadership development of our Officer Candidate School and Warrant Officer Candidate School Programs.”

Maj. Nichole E. Inskeep

Maj. Nichole E. Inskeep enlisted into the Minnesota Army National Guard, 34th Infantry Division, in 2003 as a personnel services specialist. She received her commission from the Alabama Military Academy - Officer Candidate School in 2005 and commissioned into the Minnesota Army National Guard. She graduated from the Military Police Officer Basic Course in 2005 and was assigned to 257th Military Police Company as a combat support platoon leader. She later served in the 34th MP Company as a platoon leader and executive officer, and with the 257th MP Company as an executive officer before returning to the 34th Infantry Division as an operations officer in the Provost Cell.

She transferred to the Kansas Army National Guard in 2009, serving in 1st Battalion, 235th Regiment as an Officer Candidate School instructor, platoon trainer, and later the battalion senior platoon trainer. She took command of Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 69th Troop Command, in July 2013 until assuming command of the 35th Military Police Company in February 2014.

In 2017, Inskeep deployed with the 35th Military Police Company to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. During this deployment, she served as the detachment commander and the task force executive officer. Upon return from deployment in 2018, she was selected for assignment to the 35th Infantry Division, serving initially as the deputy personnel officer until May 2019, when she became the Operations, Plans, and Training simulation operations officer. In 2022, Inskeep deployed with the 35th Infantry Division as the Operations, Plans, and Training chief, Training and Exercises/Theater Security Cooperation for Task Force Spartan - Operation Spartan Shield.

Inskeep’s civilian education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in liberal studies from the Excelsior College, Albany, New York, and a Master of Arts degree in business and organizational security management from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri.

Her military education includes the Military Police Officer Basic Course, Military Police Captains Career Course, Simulations Operations Course, Command and General Staff Officers Course, Advanced Operations Course, and various other courses. 

Inskeep’s awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters and other awards.

Lt. Col. Jason M. Inskeep

Lt. Col. Jason M. Inskeep enlisted into the Minnesota Army National Guard in 1996 with Company C, 134th Forward Support Battalion as a combat medic. He transferred to the 84th Training Division, U.S. Army Reserve in 1999 and served as a drill sergeant until 2001.

Inskeep graduated from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 2002 and commissioned as an armor officer into the Minnesota Army National Guard through the University of Minnesota Army ROTC program. Initially assigned to Company G, 113th Cavalry Regiment as a scout platoon leader, he was moved to Company C, 2nd Battalion, 136th Infantry Regiment (Mechanized) and deployed as an infantry platoon leader to Forward Operating Base Connor, Bosnia, in support of Operation Joint Forge. He returned in April 2004 and was selected as the fulltime training officer for the 682nd Engineer Battalion and was assigned as the executive officer for Company B, 682nd Engineer Battalion.

He deployed again in 2005 with the 1st Battalion, 34th Armored Brigade Combat Team, serving with to Convoy Support Center Scania, Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. During this time, Inskeep served as a security platoon leader, company executive officer, and as the acting company commander until returning in August 2007.

Upon return, he accepted an Active Guard Reserve position as the fulltime training officer for the 1st Battalion, 235th Regiment and transferred to the Kansas Army National Guard. Inskeep commanded Company D, 2nd Battalion, 137th Infantry Regiment in September 2010 until his assignment as the operations officer for the 235th Regiment in 2012.

In 2013, Inskeep was selected for assignment to the 35th Infantry Division, serving as the Operations, Plans, and Training simulation operations officer. In 2016, he was assigned as the executive officer and fulltime administrative officer for the 2-137th Infantry Regiment, serving in this position until 2018. He then served as the chief of Army Manpower at the Joint Forces Headquarters-Kansas until September 2020, when he was assigned as the fulltime administrative officer for 69th Troop Command. He will next serve as the fulltime training officer, Operations, Plans, and Training, at the 35th Infantry Division.

Inskeep’s civilian education includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the University of St. Thomas and a Master of Arts degree in industrial/organizational psychology from North Central University in Prescott Valley, Arizona.

His military education includes the Armor Officer Basic Course, Engineer Captains Career Course, Simulations Operations Course, Command and General Staff Officers Course, Advanced Operations Course, Knowledge Management Qualification Course, and other courses. He will start the U.S. Army War College Distance Education Program this summer.

Inskeep’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Iraq Campaign Medal second award, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Combat Action Badge, the Expert Field Medical Badge, the Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, the Air Assault Badge, and other awards.
