Inactivation Ceremony To Be Held For 1st Battalion, 127th Field Artillery

The 1st Battalion, 127th Field Artillery, Kansas National Guard, will be inactivated in a ceremony at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007.  The Battalion Colors will be cased at the Ottawa Armory, 208 W. 17th Street.  The battalion, headquartered in Ottawa, with units in Burlington, Garnett, Holton, Lawrence, Lenexa, Paola, Salina and Topeka, is transitioning to other units within the state.  Personnel will primarily be assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 130th Field Artillery or 1st Battalion, 161st Field Artillery or the 250th Forward Support Company, responsible for providing logistical and maintenance support for a general support artillery. 

Approximately 150 soldiers of the battalion returned from duty in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in October 2006.

The battalion was organized Oct. 1, 1940, as the 127th Field Artillery and assigned to the 35th Division (later the 35th Infantry Division) for service in Europe during World War II.  It was reorganized and federally recognized May 24, 1948, with headquarters at Ottawa. The battalion has Campaign Participation Credit during World War I (Meuse-Argonne, Alsace 1918, Lorraine 1918) and World War II (Normandy, Northern France Rhineland Ardennes-Alsace and Central Europe).
